Working in partnership with the Bay Area baseball community, The Foundation is providing meaningful financial support to organizations that facilitate active participation in athletics and life coaching for under served youth in the Bay Area.
For nearly 40 years Dante was San Francisco's own Mr. Baseball to thousands of boys and young men. His kindness, generosity and occasional firm hand guided many a young boy away from trouble and back onto the road to becoming responsible adults.
His legacy is seen today throughout our community as "Dante's boys" have become policeman, doctors, coaches, teachers, and businessmen.
Dante Benedetti grew up in the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco where his generosity and guidance made him a father figure to many. He wanted to keep kids out of trouble and into baseball by buying them gear and even sponsoring up to eight teams with all gear necessary.
In 1962 he began a 16-year coaching career at USF where he is credited with saving the USF baseball program. When USF decided to end the program for financial reasons, Benedetti offered to coach the team for a $1 per year salary.
